Job Seekers

I continually find persons that see pertinent jobs, and then somehow never seem to get motivated to e-mail their resume to me, or who send it to me as resume.doc !

Resume filenames should NEVER be anything other than lastname.firstname.middleinitial.doc.

Cover letters should be separate and their filename standard is lastname.firstname.middleinitial.cov.doc Do NOT send in zip files. If you use AOL, use two different messages and send resume with one and cover with another msg.

As one of the leaders in this industry, and with over 40 years in recruiting, and with over 35years systems experience, information mangagement and storage/ retrieval, that naming convention is one I conceived, proposed, shared, and have been implementing for over 6 years. Hundreds of other recruiters have adopted this standard and use it to quickly find the resume that their client wants to speak with, withoiut having ot open dozens of resume*.docs.

I notified over 750 major colleges and universities career service centers of that and now many graduates are sending their resumes out with filenames which are not resume.doc. Anyone who does that, ever.... is truly wasting their time !

If you have seen a job in which you're interested, send your resume first, then call me at 678 889 6059 to discuss your chances. I prefer elaborative cover letters which detail whether you are employed or not, last date, final base salary, type and size firms which might be attracted by your credentials and experience, your locational preferences, whether you can relocate or not, where ? Where not ? It is essential that I have your resume on disc, and not just a hard copy. All submittals to clients and affiliates are made via email ONLY.

For the record, I do not accept PDF files as Acrobat files are generally read only. Its essential to your intent to secure an interview invitation, that I edit your resume to my recognizable style, and my ability to cut out the 'fat' that employers generally get tired of reading over and over. My resumes and candiates are generally more quickly read, more easily retained in memory, and get more phone calls pursuant to interviews.

If you see a job here, then it is current to the best of my knowledge.

I will not always email your resume to my client, depending on existing competition for any given job, but cannot make accurate representation to the client without it. With your e-resume, I can email it and then make a followup telephone call later, and answer client questions about your experience, education, salary requirements, and perhaps set up a personal interview.

I get resumes from MS level graduates with high grade point averages, those who have been on deans lists, and Summa and Magna cum Laude graduates. The number of highly qualified seekers of jobs is at an all time high, and the interview process more competitive than ever.

Many firms parse resumes for keywords and prioritize those resumes by the number of hits on keywords, minimizing the influence of a recruiter and his judgement, insights, knowledge of technology transfer isues, the advisability of relocation of any particular candidate, etc.

You need highly polished skills and tools at your disposal just to get your resume noticed for interview consideration. I don't generally market candidates, unless I have obvious clients to whom to make an approach, but obviously, cannot create openings.

  • Your MAIN STRENGTHS, both technical and personal... get SPECIFIC. Do you speak any foreign languages fluently enough to conduct business there ?
  • YOUR salary objective. Most resumes without salary are not considered as seriously as those with salary history or objectives. What is your sense of urgency.. tomorrow, next week, or next year ? I spend time on those who will make interviews as soon as I can set them with my hiring employers.
  • What geographical areas you prefer, and those you cannot or will not consider.
  • What industries have appeal for you, and what size firms ?
  • Whether or not you are looking for hands-on technical role or one which may require sales or marketing abilities. (what are your long term goals ?)
  • If you are in computer science area, what computer languages do you excel in ? How many months in that language, and what kind of applications experience you have ? Do you have telecommunications experience? On what platforms are you experienced ?
  • If seeking a sales or marketing job, what specifically have you sold, what is personal sales volume in $$, thru what channels, in what states, to what type of customers, to roughly how many accounts ?
  • Copy of your transcript would enlighten the reader as to what courses you did better in, if you are a recent graduate and your grade point average is above 3.0.
  • If seeking sales/marketing job, what life experiences do you have which lend themselves to that end? Other objectives in process, project, materials engineering roles should identify the processes, projects, and type of materials with which you have experience, i.e., metals, plastics, polymers, resins, organic chemicals, ceramics, composites, fibers, adhesives, thin films, audio cd's, plc's, software, networks, machinery, components ... what?
  • I am unable to currently justify efforts in behalf of student F-1 or H1-b Visa holders. If you dont have a green card or valid work permit or OPT, dont expect me to be able to help you.. I am sorry, but that is just the way it is ...

If just one other resume is more articulate than yours, that candidate may be called before you are. Give more than enough information to the reader to make any conceivable decision about the overall 'fit' of your objectives into his organization, and enough to stimulate the reader to want to pick up the phone and open dialogue. If your resume does not do that most of the time, it should be constantly reworked until it does so most of the time.

An interesting thing happens in interviews, and that is, when somebody likes you, they want to try to structure something that might accommodate your objectives, even if you are not exactly what they had in mind for a particular job. When that happens, the offer can be better than that which might have been, because of "personal chemistry"

To have your resume on file with a capable recruiter with the 39 years of experience that I have, is to realize that may soon get a call from me about a position for which you are more or less qualified. I cannot create jobs, I can only discover an interest in one individual, in some specific functional discipline, and hopefully, in a particular companies' job vacancy.

In order to meet that eventuality, I go to my computerized database of 48,720 candidates, which points me to specific complete e-resumes which I have on file, and numbering 15,625, and parse them to find persons who seem qualified. Then I email them to ask if they are still available and sometimes email them a current job spec in which I feel that they should have some interest, as well as pertinent questions about salary, timing, objectives, relocation, supervisory abilities, etc.

It is a very time consuming process. Although you are free to call me anytime, rest assured that I have not forgotten you. The more time I must spend talking TO you, the less time I have available to spend talking to clients ABOUT you.

Your understanding is appreciated, your cooperation and patience valued. I do not usually return phone calls unless I have your e-resume in hand. All submissions to clients are via email only. My fax machine died, and I decided not to replace it because that technology (for my purposes ) is obsolete

If you are willing to relocate out of commuting distance from wherever it is that you now live, advise me so, and I can get your resume into the hands of many other recruiting firms and agents. If those recruiters have clients with job vacancies for which they feel you are qualified, you will hear from them directly.

Please keep me advised as to any developments in that regard, as proper and adequate follow-up is critical to your successful placement, reference checking, and providing you with information you need about the prospective client and his management style, personnel, products, markets, fiscal year end, budget meetings, timing, vacations, benefits, growth plans, etc.

Lastly, realize that most of the country is now (Feb 2006) in a sellers market, there are still many more job seekers than there are jobs. Its very important to have your tools polished and ready for effective use now, as the market is turning upwards and could turn up more sharply in the very near future.

I prefer you to compose a narrative cover letter painting a word picture of your situation, sense of urgency, product or territorial responsibility, current salary, and giving perspective to your contribution to bottom line, in order to make it more likely that I'll be able to get you an interview when a situation develops for which you're qualified.

This can make the difference between your getting a1interview, or waiting because someone else's cover letter was more articulate or interesting, to the point, or otherwise timely or appropriate, or with significantly more depth of information on his process, product, market, technical, business knowlede, vision, sense of urgency, locale preferences, personal values, team building abilities, computer literacy, grade point average, or just more keywords !

With this well written cover and a hard copy resume, you chances of getting a qualified interview and an offer are significantly enhanced. Keep your letters and resume polished and current. Put yourself in their shoes and imagine that you have opportunity to read dozens of resumes daily for each job you have. Which would you invite first ?

Try to insure that its your presentation which stimulates the employer to positive action in your direction.

Lastly, be sure that your EMAIL address is ON YOUR RESUME. To e-mail me your resume, send as MS WORD attachment (lastname.firstname.doc ) and I will print it when I seem to have a possible opening for which you are qualified.

I prioritize my time by spending it in behalf of those with the highest qualifications, who are the most serious about a change, and most ready to accept an interview and a reasonable offer from one of my client employers.

For 99% of all jobs out of GA, they are clients of an affiliate of mine, and before the affiliate will submit your resume he/she will require a cover letter expressing your specific interest in that job, willingness to relo to that city, whether or not you are employed, if now, when last, final base salary, and what specific talents you have which bear on the jobs requirements.

I could just send your resume but (as in this case) without specific recent experience in supplier quality in the automotive components industry, your resume and lack of a cover will essentially sit on a shelf somewhere while others who have most or more of the cover info mentioned here are being submitted.

In order to get an interview, you have to have more specific information which motivates a call from the decision maker, than 95% of all other contenders.. if you dont get a call, its because as many as 3 to 6 others have provided that info and are being or have been called and have interviews setup, and the decision maker is unlikely to set up more than 5 interviews at any one time..
