Performance Polymers The Production Manager will be responsible for leading a multi-shift manufacturing team, involving continuous coordination of production-related activities, workforce planning and labor relations, and effective communication in order to meet production objectives and customer expectations with the highest standard of quality, efficiency, safety, and housekeeping. The Production Manager acts as a senior mentor and coach for Operations Team Leader(s).

OPERATIONS/PRODUCTIVITY INITIATIVES: Lead, coordinate and assist in day to day Team Operations ensuring effective communication. Assist in establishing annual budgets for manufacturing, including overtime, tooling and equipment expenditures. Review and correct cost variances researching issues and putting corrective action plans in place. Direct and coach Shift Team Leaders in the implementation and administration of company policies and procedures.

Participate in production and plant leadership team meetings, communicating goals/objectives/priorities to the team. Support the development and implementation of Productivity, Safety, Cost and Continuous Improvement Programs. Direct equipment repair and maintenance, as necessary. Coordinate management of employee timekeeping system, acting as the Kronos Administrator. Ensure accurate record keeping and administration of the Company's Attendance Policy.

LEADERSHIP/DEVELOPMENT INITIATIVES: Mentor Shift Team Leaders; acting as trainer and coach. Lead Production teams in achievement of production requirements, including productivity, quality, safety, and customer service. Promote and maintain a collaborative working relationship with workforce. Support performance management activities - including performance evaluation, objective setting, and developmental planning for hourly manufacturing employees.

Establish performance and development plans for Shift Team Leaders, establishing SMART performance objectives that can be measured. Coordinate all hourly manufacturing recruitment activities. Ensure effective training of new employees and continued cross-training and development of existing employees, including apprentice operators. Coach Shift Team Leaders in the management of employee relations, including discipline, employee conduct, and performance.

CONTINUOUS IMPROVEMENT/SIX SIGMA INITIATIVES: Drive standard work and 5S Initiatives throughout the organization. Support the implementation of ELS (Enterprise Lean Sigma) and Six Sigma initiatives, including employee training. Mentor Six Sigma Green Belt candidates, ensuring project cost saving targets are met.

SAFETY/TRAINING INITIATIVES: Support ISO 9001 & 14001 initiatives. Provide training, quarterly reviews and support to safety team as needed. Conduct accident investigations as needed. Work with Occupational Health Nurse to manage return to work/workforce restrictions as appropriate.

BS Degree required, chemical 5-7 years manufacturing operations experience, including 3+ years mfg management experience. (experience within chemical industry preferred, but not required) Key seems to be to find someone who has not been a plant mgr, and who will be content with being a prodn mgr for next 5-6 years.

Experience managing and sustaining lean manufacturing tools and processes, including Kaizens, 5S, Standard Work and Waste Reduction. Strong competence in the following areas: analyzing problems and issues, delegating and monitoring assignments, driving for results, engaging and inspiring others, exercising insightful judgment, inspiring trust, leading courageously and promoting collaboration. Ability to adapt to a dynamic, fast pace, and rapidly changing environment while effectively managing and meeting the high level of manufacturing demands which includes 50+ hour work week. Ability to work comfortably within a fast-paced and matrixed organization built around team concepts and structures.
