One of my affiliates has a client in Houston seeking an Instrument Engineer
in a Chemical Specialty mfg plant. $85K to $110K BSEE best, maybe BSCHE

Overview Instrumentation Engineer has the skills and experience needed to aggressively
drive site-wide instrument reliability improvement enabling plant profitability. This position
will provide support for maintenance, operations, and project engineering with the goal of meeting
asset utilization goals and reducing maintenance costs associated with plant instrumentation. Implements
preventive and predictive plans and coordinates projects with the plant-wide turnaround schedules.
Position takes ownership for the operation and calibration of all site instrumentation.

Specific Responsibilities For new projects, supports instrument design, specification,
selection and installation in plant chemical processing equipment including: Establishes plant-wide
design standards and specifications. Provides strategic view and implementation plans for upgrades.
Coordination with EPC firms as required for project support for existing plant assets and infrastructure,
responsible for on-going maintenance and reliability activities including: Identifies and eliminates defective
or faulty instruments. Drives upgrades and improvement plans to offset obsolescence.
Performs root cause failure analysis and corrective action plans on critical instrument failures. Coordinates
outage and tie-in activities as relating to project and maintenance work. Creates, monitors and maintains
instrument technical data by using SAP or ad hoc tools.

Evaluates new instrument technologies to help resolve long term instrumentation and
control problems. Works with maintenance as required to ensure non-routine repairs and modifications
are accomplished safely and correctly. Develops and maintains effective predictive and preventive
maintenance systems for the plant instrumentation systems. Develops interlock testing policies,
procedures and protocols. Works with maintenance and operations to ensure critical long lead time
spare instruments are vailable as plant stock or dedicated supplier stock as required.

General Responsibilities - Eliminates instrument related issues which help drive to zero
injuries and environmental incidents. Maintains instrumentation files, records, and update histories
as required beyond what is included the maintenance CMMS and engineering electronic document
management systems. Assists Pipefitters and I&E Technicians on I&E equipment and control valve issues
as needed. Spends time periodically with Control men, Supervisors, Superintendents and Mechanics to
understand any I&E issues they may have. Coordinates activities with DCS Engineer.

Identifies instrument mechanics and electricians training gaps and works with their supervision to
address them. Communicates to area personnel updates on I&E projects, as needed. Provides troubleshooting
and repair assistance to Instrument Mechanics or other unit personnel. Works with process engineers on
instrument/process issues to verify problem source and recommend solutions. Analyzes periodically the
Distributive Control System (DCS) alarm screens to identify instrumentation issues not being addressed.
Creates, implements and monitors procedures for electrical and instrumentation PM jobs, interlock testing.

Education BSEE, BS Chem Eng or BSME .. no non technical degrees considered.
Minimum of ten (10) years experience in plant engineering or maintenance. Individual has
experience with various plant instrumentation systems, DCS platforms, networks, communication
schemes, control algorithms, etc.

Skills - Demonstrates strong technical skills in power distribution systems. Possesses good
communications and interpersonal skills Demonstrates proficiency in the use network communication,
Honeywell DCS, Computerized Maintenance Management (preferably SAP-PM), and PLC systems.
